Gout and wool socks - Alpaca socks might help

Gout is a disease for which wool socks are often the most comfortable option. Even wool socks made of high-quality alpaca wool do not cure gout, but they can make you feel better.

Alpaca wool is a unique natural material whose incomparable properties can have positive effects on people suffering from gout, rheumatism and diabetes.

Ruukki's Kehräämö alpaca socks are soft, breathable and free of any kind of mechanical irritation. They don't tighten. However, it is important to understand that the material of the socks does not have a direct effect on these diseases, but the treatment usually involves medication and lifestyle changes, such as checking the diet.

The possible benefits of alpaca wool for people with gout, rheumatism or diabetes are related to its softness and thermal properties:

  1. Temperature regulation: Alpaca wool retains heat efficiently, but at the same time breathes, which can help maintain joint comfort.
  2. Softness: Alpaca wool is known for its softness, which can be nice for gout sufferers who may have joint pain.
  3. Skin friendliness: Alpaca wool is hypoallergenic, so it can be a good choice for people with sensitive skin or allergies.
  4. Moisture management and breathability: Alpaca wool can help manage moisture and keep the skin dry and healthy, especially if the disease is associated with skin problems.
  5. Hypoallergenic: Alpaca wool is hypoallergenic, meaning it is less likely to cause allergic reactions compared to other wool or synthetic materials. This is useful if the skin is sensitive due to gout.

However, it is important to remember that these are properties generally associated with alpaca wool, and are not directly related to these diseases. A person should always discuss gout-related treatment options with their doctor and make a decision based on their personal needs.

Wool socks made from Ruukki Kehräämö's alpaca wool can, however, offer comfort and well-being around the joints, which can be one part of comprehensive gout treatment.

Alpaca socks

★★★★★

Without exaggeration, the best socks I've ever worn. Above all, these are COMFORTABLE. Surprisingly comfortable. But it's more important, for yourself, how warm you are. Here, the bike season moves into a colder position, so these are already a joy. They are warmer than similarly thick merino wool socks.

If someone hasn't realized yet, this is not the so-called liner sock but a little thicker - cf. hiking socks.

My conscript son praised it as the best. In conscript service at the camp, they are absolutely superior.

Warm and keep your toes dry. These knee socks are the best! A suitably thin sock that fits both shoes, skates and overalls. The socks keep the toes dry and warm, even if the feet get a little wet. The socks also comfortably warm the calves.

The only minus comes from the fact that the socks wear thin from the heel and under the instep (friction points). However, I have not found better socks for winter sports, despite the wear and tear.

Eyelashes frozen, toes not! I've skated for four days straight now. More than 100 kilometers skated. It's been really bitterly cold and the knee-length alpaca socks have been great. The socks have been amazingly warm, used every day for more than 6 hours, over -20C in freezing temperatures. I recommend!

Incredibly warm even when soaking wet. I slipped and swam one leg in the fell stream, so that both the alpaca sock and the shoe were completely soaked. It was freezing outside, about -2°C. I walked the rest of the distance, about 7 kilometers, with wet socks, but my toes didn't freeze at all and the wet socks didn't cause chafing.

In the past, alpaca socks have kept the feet warm in situations such as e.g. in the stands of the ice rink, but this was now the ultimate test, which the socks passed with flying colours.😅
